Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek  |  19 Days

Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is a fabulous adventure located in the Far Eastern Himalaya region of Nepal; the mountain straddles the border with Nepal and Sikkim (a small Northeast Indian state) and Kanchenjunga, of local Tibetan origin, is spelled as Kanchenjunga, which means "5 jewels," dedicated to its five massive summit tops of Mt. Kanchenjunga. The Kanchenjunga base camp trek is an adventure that leads to the North Base Camps of the massive Kanchenjunga mountain; perhaps this is the only trek in and around the Himalayas, and probably in the world, where you can enjoy being in base camps of the mountain on the journey. Mt. Kanchenjunga stands as the world's 3rd highest mountain and the second highest peak in Nepal, with an altitude of 8,586 m.

From Shekathum, a hike leads at first to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp, also known as Pangpema, the final point of the Kanchenjunga North hike, sitting at an altitude of approximately 5,143 m. It offers breathtaking views of the world's third-highest mountain, Kanchenjunga (8,586 meters), as well as other high peaks such as Tent Peak and Chang Himal. The route to the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp passes through remote villages, dense forests, high-altitude meadows, and glacial moraines, making it one of the most adventurous hikes in Nepal. The hike area landscape is stark yet awe-inspiring, with dramatic ice walls and glaciers surrounding the area. After hiking past serene and enchanting alpine forests of rhododendron and pine trees within remote rural farm villages, our adventure continues towards Kanchenjunga North Base Camp at Pangpema, the highest point of our adventure, standing at 5,143 m with a stunning panorama of the Kanchenjunga massif and adjoining peaks.

Finally, fabulous, exciting hiking time within the Kanchenjunga base camps and our overwhelming hike, the Kanchenjunga base camps conclude with heading back on a drive past the Shekathum for the drive towards Ilam town and then towards Nepal's flat Terai for the sweeping panoramic flight back to Kathmandu, after a memorable and exciting adventure on the Kanchenjunga Region Trekking trip.

Acclimatization is an absolutely necessary part of any high-altitude travel. This is the only way your body can deal with the increase in altitude. Acclimatization helps your body produce more red blood cells; this increases the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood, thus making your body adjust to the altitude change. This process can require up to hours and even days. But it is best to not take any risk and give your body the maximum amount of rest you can. You are recommended to spend at least one night or more at every checkpoint for acclimatization. This will be just enough to lower the risk of any disease you can get at high altitudes.
